Cascais citizens - Who are we? What do we look like?

In 2021, we are more and older

In 2021, we got to know the new demographic profile of Cascais. How many are we and how are we? The new census process tells us that we are growing, and all parishes have gained population (since 2001, the municipal population has increased by 25.5%). The parish of Cascais and Estoril is the most chosen by the Cascais inhabitants to live in, and Alcabideche is the least populated.

We are more and older: the elderly group has increased about 4.8% in 10 years. Although the number of births continues to decrease, the migration balance and the arrival of new residents to our intercultural territory is increasing.

We are intercultural

44,559 foreign citizens lived in Cascais in 2021, being 85% of them from countries outside the European Union. The female presence is quite evident: nowadays, women coming from non-EU countries represent 48.2% of all foreign residents.

We welcome and promote quality of life for all, which justifies the doubling of the foreign population in the municipality within 5 years (in 2016, official data recorded only 20,563 foreign citizens).

Our Top 5 among the 139 nationalities registered in 2021, finds Brazil with 24.9% of the total number of immigrants, followed by the UK (5.5%), Italy (5.4%), France (3.1%) and Spain (3.0%).
